After a few technical hurdles/glitches, I can finially say I've completed my 1/64 1/4mile drag strip Power rails are flat stitching wire, and the running surface is sprayed blackboard paint. Makes for a realistic look, with excellent traction for stock rubber tyres. LDR's serve as staging sensors, while LED/photodiode pairs are used across the lanes for Start, Speed Trap and Finish line sensors. The Tree has 14 individually controlled lights, all controlled by some proprietry software I scored from a now defunct professional 1/24 strip. Features include R/T's, full Eliminator handicap/delays (from entered Dial Ins), Red Light detection (will determine winner if both Reds), Break Outs, even a Pro Tree option. Lights fire at 0.5sec intervals. The speed trap is scaled to 1/64, but the software is designed to run 1/24 - still gives an excellent speed comparison between runs though The track is in 6 sections of 1380mm, the last section being electrically tied to try and stop the cars (still needs a physical stopper on the end hehe ) We've run everything from Tjets to RO cars down it, all prove lotsa fun! Dave, where did you get your rail wire at? and what size router bit did you use?
Let me know when your next Drag race is and I'll send out a few prizes down under.

Dave, where did you get your rail wire at? and what size router bit did you use? Let me know when your next Drag race is and I'll send out a few prizes down under. Sam The rail is 2.5 x 0.5mm (approx. 0.1 x 0.02") flat stitching wire, picked it up from a local supplier. Should be able to Google some near you All slots/pockets were done with a 1/16" (1.6mm) router bit, the rails are locked in with light gauge electrical hookup wire (black in this case). It's my 2nd routed track, after my 8 x 4' tight 4 lane road circuit. The track itself was very easy to make, but the electronics etc took way longer than a "normal" race circuit! Currently running at about 26V (max on my power supply, prob getting short on amps too), using box standard Tomy chassis (incl the rubber tyres!), they seem to run in the 0.8sec range. Stock JL/AW Tjets on 18V run low 2sec passes. Not mind blowing, but lotsa fun getting that hole shot on the green! As for prizes, that's a really cool offer, but I don't think we're serious enough (yet, hehe) to warrant free stuff!! Mind you, the odd PsychoSlots sticker would be cool on the track walls, will have to include some when I get around to printing track graphics.
