What is defrance betwine mean green arms and the stock AW 4gear arms? Typically, stock arms measure 14 ohms or greater. Mean green arms measure 6 ohms or greater. Door Slammer classes only are allowed use of the mean green arm with the 4Gear chassis. Ninjatek

Hey Jetwash. Welcome to the 'insanity'! ;D While Ninjatek was correct, since you are new to this, I would like to elaborate a little on what he said. Key thing to remember about what he sais is that Mean Greens are only allowed in the Doorslammer class "With a 4 gear chassis". They are also allowed in the Gasser class, however that is with a Thunderjet type chassis (has 3 gears on the top rail..this type of chassis has been around FOREVER..lol). So, in summary, Mean Greens are allowed in Doorslammer (4 gear) and Gasser (Tjet). At present, that is the only two NTRA classes they are allowed in. Hopefully, that didn't confuse ya too much..lol. ;D Ron (Bondo)

Hey jetwash - I'd try luckybobs for mags (good guy if he dosn't have in stock he'll tell you when he will), also has mean greens (about $6.50 I think). Might wanna try tjsgrig, if he has them for afew more dollars he'll race prep for you (nice guy, and knows the poop on pancakes). Been trying to learn class rules as of late. Way I understand, "COMPETITION ELIMINATOR CLASSES" use a 5 ohm minimum. That would be; Door Slammer(4gear), Gasser,Altered, and Nostalgia Funny Car(t-jet type). Like I said, trying still to learn if I'm wrong someone please let me know. PC

you are correct about the competition class PC.
Most are using Auto World motor magnets for the competition classes. Lucky Bob's does also sell polymer motor magnets for pancake armatures if you are looking for stronger magnets. These are not legal in the competition classes but will work very well with custom wound armatures.

From what I understand, the new Dash mags are as good as the JL mags. The JL's are gettin REAL hard to find, as no one wants to take apart the cars just to sell the magnets! (the dark blue and white) I haven't tried the Dash mags yet, but I do have 4 sets here to try. Got a BUNCH of 'new' arms here too, to rebuild my Gasser, my NFC, and my Ratt, and all the 4 gear cars I am working on! Only prob is, now I gotta find some time to work on them! ;D (which is why I haven't entered my NFC in the upcoming race. It's in 'pieces' right now..lOL) Ron (Bondo)

Hey Sam - Just got four sets of JL mags from Lucky B. They are blue and white, but not dark blue like Ron mentioned. Are the AW mags a stronger mag? Not sure where to get the Dash. Got similar problems as Ron, only I have four piles of chaos going on ( one ready to go back together when arms arive ). .............aarrrrrrgh buzzed my head today so I couldn't pull anymore hair out PC

Yo - Jet, if your looking for fast try out poly or even neo mags and a hotter arm. Be carefull though, their not called "hot" for nothing. Melt-downs do occure (some can be pretty cool). ...........PC

How about the magnets and the Quadralam armature from the Aurora Super II ? These are both popular drop-in upgrades for the pan cars, the magnets can be found easily on Ebay for about $10-$15, they can be identified by their blue/yellow color with a dot indented on the blue side, but the Quadralam is a bit rarer and more expensive if you can find one - they do come up for sale ocassionally, I've seen NOS ones sell for well over USD $100. The Quadralam armature has four plates in the stack instead of usual two hence the name, the timing of the commutator is also advanced for more ooomph. However, if looking for one, have to make sure it's the Quadralam from the Super II as there was also a version for the Aurora Xlerators which had a different ohms rating and number of wounds in the coils. Some people (myself being one) even hunt down old burnt-out ones as they're a great starting point for a re-wound.
One other thing with the 'Mean Greens' - when buying them, make sure they're the proper genuine Mean Green with the green winding wire and not the copper/gold colored wire. Some sellers try to past Autoworld arms off as Aurora items.
