What system are you trying to make a tree for? The tree wiring
will be similar for all but will vary in voltages used and pin
connections. Below is wiring diagram I used to wire a tree used
with Track Mate system setup for an external 12v tree. This set
up uses 12v LEDs made for cars. Uses an external power supply
while Track Mate system controls lighting. This tree is wired as
a positive common. Other setups may use negative common. Systems
like Slot Dragon and AW most likely use a 5 volts power system
to control their lighting (most likely fed directly from a micro-
controller).

I think your right on the 5v. I'm not running a system yet.
The strip I'm building is just for fun with some my racing buddy's when I have them over. I been looking at the one on slot dragon ( painted pre stage). Don't want to spend to much on it because it's just for fun.
