I'm bored so here's a recipe for a fast racer based on the Super G Plus platform. Some of you might have heard of this setup, for those that hasn't, it's commonly known as the 'Hybrid T+' or 'Decosmo T+' configuration. Dan Decosmo brought out his custom 'T+' bulkhead around 2004 to get rid of the useless & inconsistant leaf brush spring stock bulkhead of the SG+ and replace it with brushtubes, pickup shoes and all the electrical parts off a Tyco 440X2. It's basically a customised Tyco 440X2 bulkhead grafted onto a SG+ chassis. This saves having to spend $7 - $10 for a new single-use SG+ bulkhead everytime the brushes wear out and you just replace the brushes. But due to the fact that the stock brushes in the SG+ has different commutator timing / brush positions compared to brush tubed chassis, an armature designed for a Tyco/Wizzard/Mega G has to be used when fitting the T+ bulkhead to the SG+ / G3. This might seem a little costly at the initially, but you won't regret it when the brushes wear out that very first time... I've seen sellers on Ebay sell this kind of setup for $120+ but if you know where to look for your parts, one can be built for under $100 - that includes a nice and fast custom arm !
For this setup, you will need the following parts:
* BSRT G3/R chassis, timing & traction magnet clips
* Decosmo T+ bulkhead ( go to www.gofastest.com/marc/Bulkheads.htm or Lucky Bobs )
* Wizzard high performance electrical kit (for the Tyco 440X2, contains pickup shoes, double pickup springs, adjustable threaded brush tubes, allen screws & key for brush tubes, high temp brush springs, 80% copper brushes. The threaded brushtubes in this kit are slightly longer than the stock Tyco 440X2 items, so holes will need to be drilled at either side of the chassis to fit and to provide access to the brush tension adjustment screws. having these holes also allow fitment of aluminium heatsink screws and shunt wire to the brushes for those super-powerful thick wire gauge/ low ohm custom arms, especially for drag !)
* Stock or Custom armature to suit Tyco 440X2, Wizzard, Slottech, Mega G, basically any arm for a brush-tubed inline chassis
* Stock or aftermarket motor/traction magnets for a SG+ or BSRT G3, depends on armature used
* Wizzard Independent front end (axle, front wheels, tyres, wheel retainers) or stock Super G+ front setup
* Rear axle/ crown/ rims/ tyres of your choice (I use a length of 0.059" drill blank, Wizzard pre-mounted sponge-silicone rims/tyres and BSRT gears. Ratios is your choice, for a hot stock arm, I run 7/22 for responsiveness and 8/23 for long straights)
* Stock SG+ armature bushes (or aftermarket ball bearings to reduce friction to eliminate heat) and pinion gear
* AFX guide pin (I get a stock AFX pin, cut the pin off, drill a hole and fit a longer section of high tensile or cobalt drill blank. This will help prevent the car from deslotting - works beautifully too. I do it to all my faster cars)
