Some of the 4gear bodies are too narrow for the AW 4G chassis. What do you guys use to maintain chassis rigidity when the “basket handles” are removed?
I tried a few small pieces of track rail glued across the gap. Not sure I like that though.

I've noticed on quite a few of the AW 4 gear cars that have entered my proxy races, that have the “basket handles” removed, nothing appeared to be glued to add to the rigidity, so I have followed suit with my cars that have the same issue. I have noticed no difference in performance with the said chassis, whether it had the basket handles or not. That's just my observation. Please note that is comp & lower, have not built any super comp, so might be an issue with those, don't know for sure 'bout that.

Bill I typically do not put anything in there and have not experienced any problems....even with some poly magnet cars. I have used styrene on some of my unlimited 4 gears. I just cut a piece the size of the gap and glue it in. I have also seen piano wire used fitted into holes drilled on each side and then glued in place. The AW chassis is more prone to flex than the AFX is.

the top gear plate will help to reduce flex in most cases. and, yes, the Aurora chassis are much stiffer than the AW. considering the original Aurora chassis were made from virgin plastic derived directly from refined crude oil and all the current chassis are made from recycled milk bottle plastic. it would seem that the styrene and/or the piano wire fixes would be adequate. or, just simply use original Aurora chassis. I have some which I will make available on a limited basis. PM me.

AL,
Thanks for sharing your wisdom and for the generous offer of the chassis. The 4 Gears that I'm looking to modify will be used to build cars to sell. Other than removing the basket handles, they will remain stock.
The original AFX Specialty chassis is my preference for personal use.
