Often thought about trying something like that but figured it would be illegal. Guess anything goes in unlimited. How about an Estes rocket engine with the igniter wired to the pickup shoes? It could even deploy a chute at the end of the run. LOL Bill. have run cars with Estes rocket motors. takes too long to build thrust. very entertaining, but I don't recommend doing it inside.

Guess you’re right. Race host might not appreciate having a rocket powered slot car imbedded in their wall or tv monitor.

shunted brush is the answer. drill a hole in the brush to insert tiny shunt wire in ..... or design a piece to fit between the spring and the brush that the shunt wire attaches to. Wizzard body pins for lexan bodies come to mind. there are probably other solutions. in my experience, running high AMPs through spring material is not sufficient and causes a lot of heat. in addition, when possible, insulating springs from the electrical path is a good idea. It could even deploy a chute at the end of the run. I read somewhere that an electric HO car beat another HO car with a rocket engine attached. With 60 MPH being reached in the .2s I can believe it, and Al has already tried it. Better keep the Fire department on speed dial... No rules in unlimited as far as brushes or shunts, give it a try.

Looks like the procrastination race is on. I haven't started mine yet either. Experience has taught me that I can't out procrastinate you, but I can at least try to make a race out of it.

Bill you can keep trying to out procrastinating me😁 And if you do ever succeed its only because something went horribly wrong on my end because as much as I try to Un Procrastinate myself I can’t help it🤪 just ask my Tax guy😬

Yes Al great tip !!! Gave me some ideas ? I need to get started on building. I took my 4G unlimited apart that only made it to half track with sparks at Jeff’s last race and put it back together with all the same parts and tested it. It ran a .527 @ 28 mph at 26V it make 5 consistent runs, only thing I can think happened at Jeff’s race is maybe his rails are a little higher than mine and it bogged down and got hot ? It sat pretty low with .510 silly foams on it. I was having the same issues with the springs collapsing with to much heat and wound up with putting a 4.5 arm in it. It seemed anything hotter than a 3.5 had the heat issues. 1st run would be good then after about 4 runs it was gone. Going to experiment on the 4G since that’s the one I was collapsing the springs on, then go from there ? If it works then I can apply it to the 3 Gear I haven’t started yet. Rick This is exactly what I have found as well. I can run a 3.5ohm all day without any spring issues. I need to post that video of your car on that run. It was pretty spectacular. The car didn't stick. It was rolling fine. I thought the motor came apart with the way it shuddered and the sparks that flew out of it. What did the brushes look like? Ok......update on the shunted brushes. It looks like this is the fix for the spring issue....at least in my case. I have made 5 consistent solid runs since getting this installed and the springs have not lost their tension. I posted some pics of what I did on the Bear Creek thread. FYI to the builders out there......

Thanks for the early shipping Mazda. I to am curious to see how well the Pure Stockers will run and which one will turn out to be the fastest. I have run many Pure stock cars on my track and the best seem to run in the .7s - .8s with speeds in the 17-19 MPH range. Those are the exceptions however as many run in the 10-14 MPH range with ETs in the .9 - 1.1 range which is a lot more common.

Well, the pancake unlimited car is coming right along. Its a Tjet chassis with the aluminum gear plate. Had to do some mods/repairs to the gear plate. Idler gear post was way too sloppy. Gear flopped about. Was thinking about drilling out a Magnatraction gear with the small hole for a tighter fit. Bushing for the rear cluster had a lot of vertical slop, causing gear mesh misalignment. Looks like the bushing was secured by super glue which failed. Ended up soldering it in place. Right now its fastest time should make it pretty darn competitive, in the Gasser class. We wont even discuss its slowest times. Certainly wont be pulling a "swiftkart" in this class. Havin' fun anyhow!

Got it Dyno Mike. 99 entries so far not counting the list cars, another big race.
First cars to arrive, Gibbo61, who gets the quickest shipper award. I will be posting arrival pictures as I open the boxes.
