A bug in LapTrax has been allowing me to use it for simple drag strip timing. LapTrax allows you to add additional phones or tablets as "remote clients". It just duplicates the display to another device but does not allow controls. When using this on my road course, when starting a race, the LapTrax timer lets the cars pass through once before counting a completed lap. The remote client does not work correctly and counts the first pass as a lap. It effectively times the ET from the starting tone/buzzer until a car passes the LapTrax phone. The phone thinks that the cars are still working on lap one, and the tablet thinks that the cars have completed lap one. The tablet (or second phone) gives you a total ET including reaction time for the run down the dragstrip. The reaction time certainly is a factor, but now I can actually quantify loss or improvement in performance. It is pretty simple and primitive, but it is better than no timing system at all. Being free and ad free for Android, you really can't go wrong. I have reached out to the developer to make this an actual feature with appropriate starting light tree.
