Has anyone with a Slot Dragon 2 using a photo sensor have problems with running stock AW 4 gear chassis?

I have the SD system but having no issues with 4 Gears. What sort of problems are you having?

I'm using a SD2 with photo sensors and when ever I run 4 gear AW (the only pancakes I have), at speeds more than is allowed in a school zone, the cars will trip the sensors about what would be the 60' area or .10-.15 sec. into the run. The system works great on all other inline style cars that I have or tried at any speed.

Could be RF noise being transmitted by the cars. Try installing a small electrolytic capacitor, 1 mfd @ 50v, across your rails to see if that helps. Be aware of the capacitor’s polarity when you try that.

Here's a photo of the electrolytics, I have one on each side installed on my track. I was getting false readings on the 330 & 660' marks occasionally. After install that stopped. I used 100 mfd @ 63v because I had them, but the 1 @ 50 will work fine. Capacitor installed.

You can find many electrolytics on E bay at low cost. Does not have to be a 1 mfd, just make sure the working volts are high enough. I just hung mine off the wire inputs for each side and lifted one of them for the picture.

Wish Radio Shack was still around too. Found Digi-Key to be a good online resource.
Electrolytics are polarity sensitive. Will go off like a firecracker if hooked up in reverse.

I have been using Digikey for years and they are great! Components are plentiful and cheap. They have EVERYTHING! I started out with a SD System and had all kinds of sensor issues. I sold it and went with a Trackmate Basic and then to a Trackmate DP300HO which I have not had any issues with either. But I have always wondered if the SD photoeye sensors could be replaced with IR sensors and lighting with more red spectrum used if that would work. It always seemed like the photoeyes were picking up light from all over whereas the IR sensors are looking for light with red spectrum. I literally have had zero issues with the IR sensors. Any thoughts on that Bill? If I still had my SD System I would have tried that as an experiment. I have all of the IR sensor numbers from Digikey if someone wanted to try it. It would be well worth it if it works.

As Bill and I stated make sure you have the correct polarity. Some of my cars would put out so much RF noise that when I free revved them, they would make the stage lights flicker.

This one of those topics that can go down the old rabbit hold! I am laying out PCBs for use with my DRC timing system. Got most of it done. Working on the sensor setup now. If all works out tires/wheels of the cars will trip the sensors. Using IR emitters and sensors as I find them to be the most reliable. If all works out I will post the results.

Not that familiar with the SD. Can you move the questionable sensor to the other lane and see if it reacts the same way?
